Cuban Missile Crisis







Col. Charles E. Thomann, ret., the last surviving member of the Cuban Missile Task Force, speaks about his experiences during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

 

Col. Thomann was the Chief Briefing Officer for Army Intelligence in the Pentagon and had just joined the Defense Intelligence Agency when the Task Force was formed. It was his job to keep the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Chiefs of Staff of the military services up to date on the latest intelligence regarding the missiles and Cuba. He was present at most of the discussions and decision making that took place in the Pentagon during the Crisis. He was also an infantry commander during the Korean War and is a Purple Heart recipient.
