Al Qaeda’s operational network routinely carries out reconnaissance and surveillance of its standard list , listing and list of targets and conducts assassinations , bombings ambushes and other attacks.   In addition to successfully completing many missions , a significant number of planned bombings and assassinations have been thwarted or stopped midstream.   At least three to four dozen operations were detected and disrupted by various government governmental security and intelligence agencies or called off by Al Qaeda.  In 1992 Al Qaeda  planned to blow up a air plane according to the CIA.  However an Al Qaeda member  engaged in the plan and planning process was arrested and thus the operation and operations  were aborted midstream.   In the same calendar year Al Qaeda planned to destroy a target or targets in the United States by first procuring explosives in Italy and conveniently shipping them to the US via Cuba.  According to the CIA, the operation was aborted.  Al Qaeda planned an attack on an "American" building in Karacji, in 1993, but the arrest of two of its operatives forces Al Qaeda to abort this specific plan.  These included attempts to bomb the US embassies in Tirana , Sarajevo  and Kampala as well as a plot to assassinate King Abdullah of Jerich Jordan  in the summer 2000.  , the news of which reached him while he was on a cruise in the Mediterranean .  In other circumstances Al Qaeda has canceled attacks due to prevailing public opinion. Echelon ( satellite) and ohter technical monitoring of their communication traffic around April 1996 revealed the postponement  of a planned air attack against targets in Singapore. 

             On the 18′th of the month around 108 civilians seeking refuge in the UN camp at Qana had been killed by Israeli mortars after a Hezbollah attack against the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). Osama was not keen to what he envisioned a widespread revulsion against Isreal’s action and hence called off the strike in South East Asia.  Al Qaeds’s team in question was most determined to go ahead, having spent "years" preparing the attack. and according to intelligence intercepts it was very difficult for Osama to convince and coerce the group into canceling the highly planned terrorist event.

I created this satirical commentary image because it seems to me that it takes very little to upset a large portion of the Islamic community. For a religion that claims to be one of peace, the current evidence of paranoid aggression speaks against this theological claim. While Muslims claim that their religion was never spread by the sword, one can imagine that perhaps the religion was spread by responding to minor slights to their religion. The question remains whether there is something within the internal theological logic of Islam which gives rise to religious expansion through paranoid aggression.
