Col. Charles E. Thomann, ret., the last surviving member of the Cuban Missile Task Force, speaks about his experiences during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

Col. Thomann was the Chief Briefing Officer for Army Intelligence in the Pentagon and had just joined the Defense Intelligence Agency when the Task Force was formed. It was his job to keep the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Chiefs of Staff of the military services up to date on the latest intelligence regarding the missiles and Cuba. He was present at most of the discussions and decision making that took place in the Pentagon during the Crisis. He was also an infantry commander during the Korean War and is a Purple Heart recipient.

Pirates Release Iranian “Mystery Ship”

Somali pirates have released the crew and ship MV Iran Dayanant after a tense standoff that saw little international press coverage, despite the unusual circumstances surrounding the ship’s contents.

Pirates on the ship, chartered by an Iranian company the US Government says is a front for weapons smuggling to Islamic fighters in the region, began developing burns, losing their hair and dropping dead shortly after hijacking the ship on August 21. Despite this and other unusual circumstances surrounding the vessel, there was little media coverage about it. Instead, the international media opted to cover another hijacked vessel, the Ukranian MV Faina, which is still being held by Somali pirates and is in the same region.

An unconfirmed blog report, quoting an unnamed Russian news source, claims the ship was a large “dirty nuke” sent by Iran and intended to explode near Israeli coastal cities. The blogger contends that Iran purchased radioactive sand from China which was then sealed in barrels. Other sources have claimed the incident to be an Israeli false-flag operation.

As for the DV Iran Dayanant, it is unclear if a ransom had been paid for the ship and crew to be released.

These were defined in terms of "collective leadership" and "collective leaderships in nature". Along with this went more than comprehensive developments of "inner-party democracies". Further the developments of "activeness and initiative as well as initiatives" of "criticism and self-criticisms" were more than emphasized as well as extrapolated. These norms were not new in themselves but were receiving growing emphasis , in an ongoing enligthened manner and forms , since the death of Stalin. What was more than important and indeed exceptional was their very entrenched appearence as formal statement , indeed statements of fact as the formal principles that were given to govern them all along as the Party’s very basis and basis of its work. So too , certain changes in the Statute articles give these Leninist norms extreme significance in a manner that they never enjoyed before.
